Challenge139 – Day 14

“If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea.”

Psalm 139:9 (KJV)

Devotional Reflection: “He Is With Me”

Sis, I get it. There are mornings when the weight of it all—the stress, the expectations, the disappointment—feels so heavy that you just want to run. You want to escape to a place where nobody knows your name, where no one expects anything from you, where you can finally just breathe. Maybe you’ve even fantasized about it. A private beach. A cabin in the mountains. Anywhere but here. Anywhere but in your own skin.

“If I take the wings of the morning”—that’s the fastest you could possibly go. Not just fast. The *fastest*. The very first light of dawn, racing faster than anything on earth. And even if you managed that, even if you somehow caught those wings and flew as far as humanly possible, the psalmist adds: “and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea”—the absolute furthest. The deepest. The most remote. The end of the earth.

You know what gets me about this verse? It’s not just describing distance or speed. It’s describing desperation. It’s the cry of someone who feels so lost, so far from God, so utterly alone that she’s trying to outrun her own life. But here’s the thing that changes everything: even there—at the fastest point, at the furthest place, at the deepest depth—He is already waiting. You cannot outrun His presence. You cannot fly so fast or fall so far that His love doesn’t reach you. Because He doesn’t chase you to the edges. He’s already there. He’s always been there.

Maybe for you, it’s not about literally running away. Maybe it’s about the anxiety that wakes you up at 3 a.m., telling you you’ve ruined everything. Maybe it’s the loneliness that whispers that you don’t belong anywhere, that you’ve drifted too far from God to ever come back. Maybe it’s the shame that says, ‘You’ve made too many mistakes. He’s done with you.’ And so you run in the only way you know how—you numb it with your phone, you lose yourself in work, you isolate because being around people means being seen, and being seen means being known, and being known means risking rejection.

But what if I told you that the most radical, world-shifting thing you could possibly hear right now is this: *He is WITH me.* Not “He was with me” before I messed up. Not “He will be with me” if I get it together. Right here, right now, in this exact moment—in your anxiety, your shame, your loneliness, your running—He IS with you. He is not standing at a distance, disappointed. He is not waiting for you to become better before He shows up. He is already here. He has never left. And the moment you stop running long enough to turn around, you’ll see that He was always facing you, always looking for you, always ready to say: “Welcome home, sis. I’ve been waiting for you.”

Journal Prompt

Have you ever tried to run from a hard season, a painful truth, or even from God Himself? What did that look like for you?

Where in your life right now do you need to hear God say, ‘I am already here’? Take a moment and write it out.

2 Challenges Today:

(1) Today, go to the place where you feel furthest from God—whether that’s a quiet room, your car, or a corner of your day you usually fill with noise. Sit in it. Don’t run. Don’t scroll. Just whisper, ‘Lord, You are here.’ And wait.

(2) List 3 people you’re grateful God has placed in your life.

Prayer

Father, I thank You that there is no place I can go where You are not already there. Even on the mornings when I wake up and feel distant, lost, or like I’ve wandered too far—You are with me. Meet me in this moment, Lord. Still my heart, quiet my running, and remind me that Your presence is my home. I love You, and I trust You. Amen.

Sis, Remember This…

You cannot run far enough to escape His love.
You cannot sink deep enough to be out of His reach.
He is not chasing you—He is already there, waiting with open arms.
Wherever you are today, God is with you. He is with me.
