Challenge139 — Day 54

Today’s Scripture — Psalm 139:7–8 KJV

“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.”

Devotional Reflection — God Is Here Too

Sis, there are places in life where it is easy to recognize God. We see Him in answered prayers, joyful seasons, worship, celebrations, and moments when everything seems to be falling into place. But David reminds us that God’s presence isn’t limited to the places that feel good. Whether David goes high or low, his conclusion is the same: God is there.

That’s important because sometimes we interpret a difficult season as evidence that God has left us. When the prayer hasn’t been answered, the relationship is strained, the money is tight, the grief is heavy, or we simply don’t understand what God is doing, we may wonder, “Lord, where are You?” Psalm 139 answers us: He is there too. His presence doesn’t always mean our circumstances immediately change. Sometimes His presence means we discover that we can walk through circumstances we never thought we could because we aren’t walking through them alone.

Maybe the challenge for us today is learning to recognize God somewhere we haven’t been looking for Him. Instead of only asking God to get us out of difficult places, perhaps we should also ask, “God, show me where You are in this.” Sis, there isn’t a room, season, circumstance, valley, disappointment, or unexpected turn in your story where God cannot meet you.

Journal Prompt — God, Where Are You Here?

Write down one area of your life where you’ve had difficulty recognizing God’s presence.

Then ask:

“Lord, instead of only asking You to change this, help me recognize You in it.”

Today’s Challenge — Look for Him

Today, intentionally look for one sign of God’s presence in an ordinary or difficult place.

Write it down.

Today’s Prayer

Father, thank You that there is nowhere I can go where Your presence cannot reach me. Help me recognize You not only in the beautiful seasons but also in the difficult ones. When I cannot understand what You are doing, remind me that Your presence has not changed. Open my eyes today so I can recognize that You are here too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
