FILAS Women Online
Devotional for a deeper, more intimate walk with the God who knows you completely.
Today’s Scripture
Psalm 139:16 (KJV)
“Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”
Devotional Reflection
Already Written
Sis, I know that we have spent a lot of time dealing with God knowing us but I feel that there is so much to unpack from that to the point that I cannot leave it alone. Before anybody knew your name, God saw you. Before your first breath, before your first step, before your first mistake, before your first heartbreak, and before your first victory, God’s eyes were already upon you. David says, “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect.” There is something deeply comforting about knowing that God saw us while we were still being formed. We didn’t have to accomplish anything, prove anything, or become anything before we were worthy of His attention. He saw us from the beginning.
Psalm 139:16 also reminds us that our existence was never a surprise to God. There has never been a morning when God looked at your life and said, “I didn’t see that coming.” The things that caught you off guard did not catch Him off guard. The seasons you didn’t expect, the changes you didn’t plan for, and even the moments that made you wonder what in the world was happening with your life were never outside of God’s knowledge.
Sometimes we look at our lives and only see unfinished pieces. We see where we should be further along. We see prayers that haven’t been answered yet, areas where we’re still growing, dreams that haven’t happened, and parts of ourselves that still need work. We can become frustrated because we are looking at an unfinished chapter and judging the entire story by it. But Sis, God isn’t looking at one chapter. He knows the whole story.
That doesn’t mean every painful thing that happens is something God desired for us, nor does it mean our choices don’t matter. But it does mean that nothing we encounter is beyond His ability to redeem, redirect, and use. Our mistakes cannot erase His knowledge of us. Our detours cannot confuse Him. Our delays don’t cause Him to lose our address. Even when we don’t understand where life is going, God has not lost sight of us.
Maybe you’re in a chapter right now that doesn’t make sense. You thought life would look different by now. You thought that prayer would have been answered. You thought the door would have opened. You thought you would have moved past that struggle. And when our expectations don’t match our reality, it can be tempting to believe something has gone wrong with our story.
But what if this chapter isn’t the conclusion?
We have to stop putting a period where God may have only placed a comma.
Psalm 139 has repeatedly reminded us that the God who knows us is also present with us. So if He saw you before you were formed, surely He sees you right now. He sees the part of the story you’re living today, and He sees what you cannot see yet.
Sis, don’t let an unfinished chapter convince you that God has forgotten the story.
He saw you then. He sees you now. And He already knows what’s ahead.
Journal Prompt
Think about the chapter of life you’re currently living.
Ask yourself:
What part of my story am I struggling to trust God with right now?
Then consider:
Have I been judging my entire story by one unfinished chapter?
Write this declaration:
“God, You saw me before my story began. You see me in this chapter, and I trust You with the chapters I haven’t lived yet.”
Today’s Challenge
Don’t Write the Ending Yet
Today, identify one situation you’ve been tempted to label as:
Too late.
It’s over.
It’ll never happen.
Nothing is going to change.
Write that situation down.
Then underneath it write:
“THIS CHAPTER IS STILL BEING WRITTEN.”
Spend a few moments thanking God—not because you know exactly how the situation will turn out, but because He is still present in your story.
Today, resist the temptation to predict the ending.
Let God be God over the pages you haven’t reached yet.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank You for seeing me before anyone else knew me. Thank You that my life has never been hidden from You. You knew me before I took my first breath, You see me in the chapter I am living today, and You already know what lies ahead. Forgive me for the times I have judged my entire story by one difficult season. When I cannot understand what You are doing, help me trust who You are. Redeem what needs to be redeemed, redirect what needs to be redirected, and give me faith for the pages I haven’t reached yet. I surrender my expectations, my timing, and my unfinished places to You. Thank You that my story is safe in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Sis, Remember This…
Don’t judge your whole story by the chapter you’re in right now.
Sis, God saw you before the story began, He sees you in this chapter, and He already knows what’s on the pages you haven’t reached yet. 💗
