Devotional Reflection — Lord, Lead Me From Here

Sis, we have spent the last several days asking God to search our hearts and examine our thoughts. But David doesn’t stop with “Search me.” He doesn’t even stop with “Try me.” He ends Psalm 139 by asking God to do something with everything He reveals: “Lead me in the way everlasting.”

That part is important because there is no benefit in asking God to show us what needs to change if we aren’t willing to let Him lead us into change. Somebody didn’t hear me on that part – let me repeat myself – That part is important because there is no benefit in asking God to show us what needs to change if we aren’t willing to let Him lead us into change.

We can recognize the bitterness, acknowledge the unhealthy relationships, identify the wrong thought patterns, admit the attitude, and even confess the sin—but then comes the question: Now that God has shown me, will I follow where He leads me?

Sometimes we want God to reveal things without requiring us to do anything about them. But when God shines His light on an area of our lives, He isn’t showing it to us so that we can sit in shame. He’s showing it to us because He wants to lead us somewhere better. Maybe He’s leading you toward forgiveness. Maybe He’s leading you away from something you’ve outgrown. Maybe He’s leading you to apologize, establish a boundary, change a habit, have a difficult conversation, seek help, or simply surrender something you’ve been trying to control.

And Sis, being led means we don’t always get to choose the route. We may pray, “Lord, lead me,” while secretly hoping He leads us exactly where we already wanted to go. But following God requires enough trust to say, “Lord, even if Your direction is different from mine, I will follow You.”

Think about where Psalm 139 began. David started with the God who knows him. He discovered the God who surrounds him, the God whose presence is everywhere, the God who created him, and the God whose thoughts toward him are precious. After all of that, David arrives at a place of surrender: “Lead me.”

Maybe that’s where these forty days have been taking us to, and to think we have 99 more days to go!

The God who knows you completely is trustworthy enough to lead you completely.

You don’t have to know every turn. You don’t have to understand the entire plan. You don’t even have to see where the road ends.

You simply have to trust the One who is leading you.

Journal Prompt — Where Are You Leading Me?

Take some time today to look back over what God has revealed to you during Challenge139 so far.

Ask yourself:

What has God shown me about myself that now requires action?

Maybe you’ve recognized something you need to release, something you need to begin, an attitude that needs changing, a relationship that needs a healthier boundary, or an area where God has been asking for your obedience.

Write:

“Lord, You have shown me __________. Now I believe You are leading me to __________.”

Don’t worry about having the entire journey figured out. Focus on the next faithful step.

Today’s Challenge — Follow His Lead

Challenge139 — Day 40: Take One Step

Today, read Psalm 139:24 KJV several times:

“And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Then ask God:

“Lord, based on what You have been showing me, what is one step You want me to take?”

Listen.

Then take one intentional step of obedience today.

If He has shown you that you need to apologize—make the call.

If you need to forgive—begin the process.

If you need a boundary—establish it.

If you’ve neglected your time with Him—make room.

If something needs to be released—open your hands.

If He’s asking you to begin something—take the first step.

Today’s challenge isn’t about figuring out the next ten steps.

Just take the next one.

Today’s Prayer

Father, You have searched me, known me, examined my heart, and revealed things about me that I may not have recognized on my own. Thank You for loving me enough not to leave me where I am. Today, I ask You to lead me. If there is anything in my life that does not belong, give me the courage to surrender it. When Your direction is different from mine, give me the faith to follow You anyway. I don’t need to know every step ahead; I just need to trust the One guiding my steps. Lord, lead me away from what is not like You and toward the woman You are calling me to become. Lead me in the way everlasting. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Sis, Remember This…

Asking God to show you is only the beginning.

Eventually, you have to be willing to let Him lead you.

You may not know where every turn will take you, but you know the One directing your steps.

Sis, you don’t need the whole map. You just need enough faith to follow God into your next step.
