Read It Again

Sis, we have been here before. Psalm 139:1 is where this journey began: “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.” But sometimes you have to come back to a familiar Scripture after you’ve walked with God for a while and read it again. The words haven’t changed, but maybe you have. and after 60 days, you should notice change. We are not the same person we were on Day 1 of this challenge – we are known, loved and seen. So, let’s go…

When we first read this verse, being searched might have sounded a little uncomfortable. We know the things we keep hidden. We know the thoughts we don’t say aloud, the questions we wrestle with, the insecurities we cover, and the places in our hearts we would rather nobody examine too closely. Yet after journeying through Psalm 139, we have discovered that God’s searching isn’t something we have to fear. The God who searches us is the same God who stays with us.

Think about what we have learned along the way. He knows when we sit down and when we get up. He understands our thoughts from afar. He knows our words before they ever leave our mouths. He hems us in behind and before. There is nowhere we can go where His presence is absent. Darkness cannot hide us from Him. He formed us in our mother’s womb, saw us before anyone else did, and thinks precious thoughts toward us. Then, at the end of the Psalm, David willingly invites this same God to search him again.

That changes the way we read verse one, doesn’t it?

“Thou hast searched me, and known me.” God didn’t discover you somewhere along the journey. He knew who you were when you started. He knew the strong parts and the struggling parts. He knew what you would get right and what you would still be working on. He knew what would make you laugh, what would make you cry, what would challenge your faith, and what would cause you to need Him more. And He still called you closer. And yet, He still pulls you closer.

Day 60 isn’t about starting Psalm 139 over as the same woman who began this journey. It’s about returning to the beginning with a deeper understanding of what it means to be known by God. Maybe you know yourself a little better now too. Maybe God has revealed some things, healed some things, challenged some things, or simply helped you recognize that His presence has been there all along.

So today, read Psalm 139:1 again—but don’t rush past it because you’ve seen it before. Sit with those words: He searched me. He knows me. And after everything we’ve discovered on this journey, perhaps we can add one more truth: and I am learning that being fully known by God is a beautiful place to be.

What has God shown you about Himself—and about yourself—since you started?

Then answer:

What does “God knows me” mean to you now that it didn’t mean 59 days ago?

Finish by writing:

“Lord, You knew me when I started, You know me where I am, and I trust You with who I am becoming.”

Today, go back and slowly read Psalm 139:1–24 from beginning to end.

But this time, don’t read it simply to study it.

Read it personally.

As you read, mark or write down one verse that speaks differently to you now than it did when you began Challenge139.

Then write one sentence explaining why.

This is your opportunity to see not only what you’ve learned about Psalm 139—but what God has been doing in you through Psalm 139.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, here I am again at the beginning: “Thou hast searched me, and known me.” Thank You for reminding me that You knew me before this journey began, You have known me through every step of it, and You know exactly where I am today. Thank You for every truth You have shown me, every place You have challenged me, and every reminder that Your presence is always with me. Continue to search my heart, teach me Your ways, and help me become the woman You created me to be. I am grateful that I am fully known and still fully loved by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
