Devotional Reflection
He Hears Me
Sis, have you ever had so much on your heart that you didn’t even know how to put it into words? You knew you needed to pray, but you didn’t know where to begin. Maybe all you could do was sit quietly, cry, whisper the name of Jesus, or say, “Lord, help me.” Psalm 139:4 reminds us that before a word ever reaches our lips, God already knows it altogether. That means prayer isn’t about finding the perfect words to explain ourselves to God. He already knows.
Sometimes we hesitate to pray because we think we need to get ourselves together first. And why do we say that – I’m will come to church when I get myself together – like you’re doing such a great job! Child please, LOL ! Okay let’s get back to this…We want to organize our thoughts, calm our emotions, or figure out exactly what we’re asking God to do. But God isn’t waiting for a polished prayer. He wants an honest one. You can come confused. You can come disappointed. You can come frustrated. You can come with questions. You can even come when all you have are tears. The God who knows you completely understands the language of your heart.
Psalm 34:17 adds another beautiful truth: “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth.” Not might hear. Not eventually hears. He hears. There are times when heaven may feel quiet and we begin wondering whether our prayers are getting through. But silence doesn’t mean God isn’t listening. An answer that hasn’t arrived yet doesn’t mean your prayer has been ignored.
And Sis, we have to be careful not to measure whether God heard us by whether He answered the way we expected. Sometimes His answer is yes. Sometimes His answer is no. Sometimes His answer is wait. Sometimes He changes the situation, and sometimes He strengthens us while we’re still in it. But none of those responses change this truth: He heard you.
Think about how personal that is. The God who created heaven and earth listens when you call His name. The prayer whispered from your car matters to Him. The prayer prayed beside your bed matters. The prayer you silently pray while sitting at your desk matters. The prayer you can’t finish because the tears started falling matters. Even the prayer that sounds like nothing more than “Jesus…” matters.
Yesterday we reminded ourselves, “I know Who to call.” Today, let’s add another truth: when I call, He hears me.
So don’t stop praying because you haven’t seen the answer yet. Don’t assume that God’s silence means God’s absence. Don’t let the waiting convince you that your prayers don’t matter. Keep talking to Him. Keep bringing Him the honest version of what’s happening in your heart.
You don’t have to make your prayer sound beautiful.
Just make it real.
Because before you ever say the words, He knows.
And when you cry out, He hears.
Journal Prompt
Think about something you’ve been praying about for a while.
Ask yourself:
Have I started interpreting God’s silence as God not hearing me?
Then write down the prayer again—but this time, don’t worry about making it sound spiritual or polished. Write exactly what is on your heart.
Finish with:
“Lord, even while I wait for Your answer, I believe You hear me.”
Today’s Challenge
Pray the Unpolished Prayer
Today, take five uninterrupted minutes and talk to God honestly.
No special wording.
No trying to sound “right.”
Tell Him what hurts. Tell Him what you’re questioning. Tell Him what you’re hoping for. Tell Him what you’re afraid of. Tell Him what you’re thankful for.
And if you don’t know what to say, simply pray:
“Lord, You already know. Help me.”
Then sit quietly for a moment before moving on with your day.
Let today remind you that prayer isn’t a performance.
It’s a conversation with the God who already knows your heart.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank You for knowing the words of my heart before they ever reach my lips. Thank You that I don’t have to come before You with perfect words or polished prayers. I can simply come as I am. When I cry out, remind me that You hear me. When Your answer seems delayed, keep me from believing that You have forgotten me. When I don’t know what to say, receive even the tears, sighs, and whispers that I cannot explain. Teach me to trust Your heart while I wait for Your answer. I know Who to call, and today I am grateful to know that when I call, You hear me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Sis, Remember This…
God doesn’t need you to find the perfect words. He already knows what’s in your heart.
Sis, just talk to Him. He hears you—even when all you can say is, “Jesus.” 💗
