Challenge139 — Day 69
FILAS Women Online
Devotional for a deeper, more intimate walk with the God who knows you completely.
Today’s Scripture
Psalm 139:24 (KJV)
“And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
James 1:22 (KJV)
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
Devotional Reflection
Don’t Just See It. Do Something About It.
Sis, yesterday we asked God to show us ourselves. We invited Him to examine our hearts, reveal our motives, and uncover the things we may have overlooked, justified, or simply refused to acknowledge. But today, I want us to consider something that can be even more challenging than asking God to reveal something about us. What are we going to do with what He shows us? Because there is a difference between recognizing something needs to change and actually being willing to change it.
Sometimes God reveals something about our attitudes, habits, relationships, or responses, and we recognize it immediately. We know we’ve been holding on to something too long. We know our words have been sharper than they should be. We know we’ve allowed pride, fear, bitterness, or insecurity to influence our decisions. We may even admit it during prayer or write about it in our journals. But then we get up, go about our day, and continue doing the very thing God brought to our attention. We acknowledged the revelation, but we never responded to it.
James 1:22 reminds us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. This is such an important reminder because spiritual growth requires more than hearing a good sermon, reading an encouraging devotional, or highlighting a meaningful Scripture. Those things help us grow, but we must also be willing to put God’s Word into practice. We cannot keep asking God to change our lives while resisting the changes He is calling us to make.
Think about David’s prayer in Psalm 139:24. He doesn’t stop at asking God to reveal whether there is any wicked way within him. He continues by saying, “and lead me in the way everlasting.” David connects examination with direction. In other words, Lord, don’t just show me what’s wrong. Lead me toward what is right. That’s a beautiful picture of what spiritual transformation should look like. When God reveals something that needs correction, we should be willing to follow His direction toward change.
And Sis, sometimes that change will require us to do something uncomfortable. It may mean apologizing when we’d rather defend ourselves. It may mean forgiving someone while still maintaining necessary boundaries. It may mean acknowledging that our reaction was wrong even when someone else’s behavior was hurtful. It may mean breaking a habit, changing our conversation, asking for help, or finally being obedient in an area where we’ve been making excuses. Knowing what is right doesn’t automatically mean we’re doing what is right.
But here’s something else I want us to remember: transformation is not always immediate. Sometimes we expect ourselves to change overnight, and when we struggle again, we become discouraged. Yet spiritual growth often happens through daily surrender, repeated obedience, and a willingness to keep allowing God to work within us. We may not get everything right the first time, but we can choose not to ignore what God has revealed. His grace gives us room to grow, but His grace should never become our excuse to remain unchanged.
Maybe the question today isn’t whether God has shown us something. Maybe the question is whether we’ve been willing to respond. We can spend so much time asking God for another word, another confirmation, or another sign when He’s already shown us the next step. Sometimes the breakthrough we need begins with obeying the instruction we’ve already received.
Sis, don’t become so comfortable recognizing your areas of growth that you forget to actually grow. Don’t allow conviction to become something you experience for a moment and then forget. When God lovingly reveals something within you, take it seriously. Pray about it, surrender it, and begin taking steps toward change.
Yesterday, we prayed, “Lord, show me me.” Today, let’s pray, “Lord, help me do something about what You’ve shown me.”
Because the goal of this journey isn’t simply to know ourselves better.
It’s to become more like Christ.
Journal Prompt
Take a few quiet moments and reflect honestly.
What is something God has already revealed to me that I have not yet taken action to change?
Then ask yourself:
What has been keeping me from responding—fear, pride, comfort, uncertainty, or simply not wanting to let go?
Finish by writing:
“Lord, I don’t want to simply recognize what needs to change. Help me become willing to do the work of changing.”
Today’s Challenge
One Revelation. One Response.
Today, we’re going to move beyond reflection and take action.
Think about one thing God has brought to your attention during this Challenge139 journey.
It might be an attitude, a habit, a relationship, a reaction, or an area of disobedience.
Write it down and complete these statements:
What God has shown me:
“Lord, You have revealed that I need to…”
What I need to do:
“My next step toward change is…”
What I will do today:
“Today, I am going to…”
Now here’s the challenge: Take one intentional step today.
It doesn’t have to be a dramatic change. It simply needs to be an obedient one.
Remember, transformation doesn’t always happen in one giant moment. Sometimes it begins with one small decision to do something differently.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving me enough to show me the things within myself that need Your attention. Thank You for every truth You have revealed throughout this journey. Forgive me for the times I have recognized what needs to change but failed to respond. Help me not to become someone who only hears Your Word but someone who lives according to it. Give me the humility to acknowledge my shortcomings, the courage to make necessary changes, and the discipline to continue growing even when it becomes uncomfortable. Lord, don’t allow me to become satisfied with simply knowing better. Help me to do better. When I struggle, remind me of Your grace. When I become complacent, stir my heart toward obedience. Continue to lead me in the way everlasting, and let my life reflect the work You are doing within me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Sis, Remember This…
God didn’t reveal it to you just so you could recognize it. He revealed it so you could respond to it.
Sis, don’t just pray about becoming a better version of yourself. Be willing to take the steps God is showing you. 💗
